The Effect of Extroversion on Reasons for Living of University Students - Moderating Effect of Family Culture Connection

Abstract
Recently, reason for living is the focus of researchers¡¯s attention in the suicide prevention study, because it is recognized for strong protective factors on the suicide. One of strong predicting reasons for living of university students is extroversion, and family culture connection is also protective against suicidal risk in the previous researches. Our country has still strong familism culture. So this study purpose is to find out the moderating effect of family culture connection on the relationship between extroversion and reasons for living of university students.
Data for this study were collected through the use of a survey instrument completed by 325 university students. Collected data were analysed by moderated multiple regression. The findings of this study as follow: First, It showed extroversion significantly impacted on reason for living. Second, family culture connection had moderating effect on the relationship between extroversion and reasons for living of university students. Based on these findings, the research discussion reinforced the importance of mental health promotion like family culture intervention and implications for mental health social work practitioners were discussed.
